Beaches
The Riviera Maya is a long stretch of Mexicos Caribbean Coast from Puerto Morelos to the North to Tulum to the South. Playa Del Carmen is the “Center” of the Riviera Maya where the Municipal Seat is located as well as all of the offices and a principal shopping district for the area.
The Riviera Maya became a destination named in the late 1990’s when Cancun was peaking as a tourist destination and Playa Del Carmen was little more than a destination for international visitors who didn’t want the hassle of being in an over constructed or over populated place like Cancun where the beaches are wall to wall hotels and resorts.
The Riviera Maya began to grow rapidly as demand for All Inclusive and low rise style hotels were sought after by the emerging tourismo clients and today as you drive the 307 highway that takes you along the Riviera Maya you can see the hotels have sprung up all along the way.
Today Playa Del Carmen is a larger city with the small town charm and even a european flare, you can walk the famous 5th Avenue in Playa as it is affectionately referred to and see stores and restaurants with Mexican, Argentine, Italian, French and of course International Cuisines. To the north of Constituyentes on 5th Avenue the zone is commonly referred to as “Little Italy” because of the large population of Italians who have moved there and opened businesses in Playa. Lets not forget in that same area there are also French and Argentine populations and businesses as well as some chain restaurants or businesses like Starbucks and La Distilleria.
