Cancun – Riviera Maya Weather August 5, 2010

Cancun and Riviera Maya Weather for August 4, 2010 including Puerto Morelos, Playa Del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Tulum and the Islands of Cozumel and Isla Mujeres.

Weather Discussion:

Another great day here in Cancun and the Riviera Maya from a weather perspective, Sunshine all day, Hot and Humid temperatures reached into the 90′s F / 30′s C again and with almost no breeze at all some scattered clouds we dodged another Low Pressure System.  Yep INVEST 92 is gone and forgotten but Stage Right we have INVEST 93 out there in a very active Tropical Atlantic.  Another Low Pressure system associated with a Tropical Wave that we will NOT see anything from.  INVEST 93 for all intense purposes will follow the backend of AGAIN TROPICAL STORM COLIN who is also NOT Going to affect MEXICO at all.
Closer to home in the Caribbean Tropical Wave 21 will be of no consequence to Cancun nor the Riviera Maya keeping its disorganized and scattered shower and thundershower activity out of Quintana Roo as it moves west towards Central America with a less than 10% chance of development into any kind of system here on the Caribbean side.

On the Pacific side we have Invest 99 which is right off the coast of Chiapas and Oaxaca around the area of Tuxtla Gutierrez and this system will move along the Mexico Pacific Coast affecting Coastal areas of Chiapas, Oaxaca, Guerrero and Jalisco and this system has a slight chance as well for development in the next 48 hours (20%) but the system like 92 in the Caribbean is packing RAIN, TORRENTIAL AT TIMES as well as very gusty winds that can affect those coastal areas, also convection from this system is likely to produce severe storms in interior sections of Mexico like Puebla, Tlaxcala and some areas of Veracruz and Mexico City as well as the Mexico Valley.
On the map you can also see that there is an area of instability from INVEST 99 that extends into the Lower Yucatan Peninsula around Guatamala, Southern Tabasco as well as parts of Honduras and Belize for today.

Current Condtions in Playa Del Carmen:

Skies: Sunny to Partly Cloudy.

Temperatures: Current 82° F / 28° C Highs 91° F / 33° C Overnight Lows 78° F / 26° C

Humidity: 74%

Barometer: 29.90 / 1013 Rising (Playa Del Carmen)

Wind: 5 MPH / 7 kph ENE

Warnings / Watches: There are no watches or warnings for our area of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Weather Outlook for Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and The Riviera Maya.

Well more of the same for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sunny with scattered clouds over most of the area from Cancun to Chetumal, more clouds as you get closer to Chetumal but for the most part Cancun through the Costa Maya will enjoy beautiful weather through the weekend and Monday looking good as well.

We didn’t put it on our map this time but there is still that Tropical Wave 21 in the central Caribbean moving west toward Central America with very disorganized showers and partly cloudy skies, some convection from that even extends as far northeast as Southern Cuba and parts of Jamaica with scattered showers and thundershowers but nothing to worry about at all, conditions in the Caribbean are slightly (10%) favorable for any kind of tropical development so a no brainer there.

If you take a look at the our Local Radar Here you can see that little blob inland around Tizimin Yucatan which is the only thing we are seeing locally right now on the Yucatan Peninsula.

So for Friday, Saturday, Sunday and looks like Monday  we are looking at a GREAT end to the week for those of you here in Cancun and the Riviera Maya, still exists from the field of high humidity covering our area afternoon or evening showers or thundershowers, NO EXTENDED RAIN during the day, great days for the beach and activity with very little wind at all making all water activities great options for the rest of the week.

Saturday as Tropical Wave 21 moves closer to the Southern Yucatan Peninsula and Central America we could see some moderate clouds as well as scattered showers and thundershowers throughout the day Saturday and Sunday but again nothing of any significance for our area during the period.

Meantime if you are in Cancun, The Riviera Maya or the Islands here be sure you get the sunblock on whether you are laying on the Beach, doing a tour or just walking around getting oriented, the sun will be brutal again today and suntan index a 7 or 8 (my scale from 1 to 10) depending on where you are. Don’t take the sun for granted, enjoy your vacations.
