Thanks...no evacuations are good thing. I have a feeling this will be just a bad storm, nothing more. I hope I am right. :)

Yeah sorry in a subsequent update I put the link but don't know what happened.

http://www.solidaridad.gob.mx/turismo is where you can go for that information. Just be aware that there is no evacuations at all here in Playa del Carmen or the Riviera Maya so you will find family and friends most likely in the hotel itself.

Regards

Ok, so Kevin James Stolz (Scubakevin) posts the hotels have been instructed to go into the governments tourism webpage database and update their guests information so that families and friends can easily locate where they are in the event that the storm hits with alot of force knocking out local communications.

How about a link for the families?

Any live webcam or pics of the effects of the storm?

Hello,
I wish I could tell you what exactly to expect but I can't (crystal ball out for repairs ;) ) but I can tell you that the closer to November we get the better the weather (relative to tropical storms and all that). It already has begun to cool down a little here at night, we are only getting to the 22ºC / 72ºF temps and during the day it has been beautiful, still quite warm for those coming from Ireland but nice for those of us who live here as daytime temperatures will be in the mid 80º's F and a little less humid than july and August. Really October and November was always my favorite time to travel to Mexico and the Caribbean before I moved here.

Hi Kevin...some friends and I were thinking of heading to Cancun on holidays for 10 days from around the 28th/29th October until 6th November...we would be coming quite far from Ireland! What do you think the chances are of rain/storms etc. would be at that time and whats the weather like in general?Sorry it may be too far away to know but would be nice to get an idea, thanks so much

Well I can't tell you with precise day times or hours but I am saying that the storm is staying so far to the south that I my prognostic report is that it will be about the same as when Karl passed us last week and Karl was MUCH closer than Matthew will get to us. We had no rain but partly cloudy skies the day that the storm made landfall to the south of us, we had overnight showers and we had rain the day AFTER Karl passed as well as some overnight and early morning rain showers for 2 days.

Satellite Imagery shows that we have some of the Northeast Bands of Matthew in the area today as Matthew moves across Honduras and is affecting southern Belize and those bands could produce some scattered showers and thundershowers during the early evening and overnight. Sometime today Matthew will begin to weaken as he is over land, winds will decrease and he will just be a low pressure system.

At 3:30 AM Roatan (the island off Honduras) was reporting winds of 40 mph and scattered rain. The Island had a 10PM curfew and some of the tourists moved from the island to the mainland.

There are some hints that there may indeed be another system developing after this system nearby in the southeastern caribbean that has the potential to be unlike those we have seen this year and has Florida people nervous, we are watching that area of instability closely.

So Viktor, vacation without rain? No guarantees even when there isn't something in the area so as I said many times, canceling is a personal decision and you and your family need to make it.

good luck

Hello,
Well as I mentioned earlier INVEST 95 is now Tropical Storm Matthew which in the next few hours is going to make landfall in Nicaragua and Honduras still moving west. It doesn't look like it will ever make Hurricane Status before landfall. The path after will definitely be to the North North West Computer Models have it staying way south of Playa Del Carmen reaching only into the Costa Maya area early Tuesday affecting that lower section of our state, Chiapas and moving towards Tabasco, Campeche and an already suffering and Flooded state of Veracruz. There is no doubt that tuesday or wednesday or a mix of the 2 days we will have rain and thundershowers. Winds not from the remnants of Matthew but from the Cold Front that will be on the west of the yucatan Peninsula (cold front doesn't mean COLD TEMPERATURES) which cause North winds which is good to keep this system out of our area. So if you want to imagine you might get a day or 2 of rain for your trip but I don't ever remember a week long wash out even in 2005 with Emily, Stan and Wilma all hitting in the same year pretty close together.

Hi,

Well you will see in my next report that INVEST 95 is now Tropical Storm Matthew (rapidly developed) so we are watching closely his movements. There are so many factors that we take into account when looking at what can or will happen so what i can tell you is I believe that Matthew will not come into the Cancun / Riviera Maya area, because of a cold front that is starting to push down and should enter the gulf of Mexico around the 25th which is Saturday and by Monday that cold front should be on the west of the Yucatan Peninsula and that Ridge should help prevent the storm from moving further to the north. The areas most affected by this storm right now look to be Nicaragua, Honduras, the Islands offshore from those countries and then Southern Mexico like Chiapas.

Canceling is such a personal decision and of course climatic changes can affect the movement of the storm and if it comes further to the north you might have a rainy day or two but a whole week is "unlikely".
