As we are entering the last 30 days of Mexico’s Official 2011 hurricane season and Hurricane Rina is just a memory the remnants of the weather from Rina and other systems continue to affect the resort areas of Cancun and the Riviera Maya.

Rain continues to pound Cancun, Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya as Cold Front 9 remains almost stationary over the northwest of the Yucatan.

The national weather service in Mexico is reporting that Cold Front #9 has become stationary over the western part of the Caribbean and is generating unstable weather with clouds and rain across the entire Yucatan Peninsula. This mass of air extends over the Gulf of Mexico and the eastern and central part of the country keeping temperatures below normal and bringing ice and freezing conditions to the north, central and eastern part of Mexico just like a Noreaster of “moderate” intensity with winds reaching as much as 40 mph / 60 kph around Istmo and the Gulf of Tehuatepec with elevated tides to 7 feet above normal along the south of the Gulf of Mexico, North and West of the Yucatan Peninsula.

A new cold front will begin to cross into Northern Mexico Wednesday November 2, 2011 and advance rapidly towards the Yucatan Peninsula bringing yes, you guessed it more clouds, winds and winter conditions again like a Noreaster with winds of up to 50 kph or 35 mph and should move into the area of the Gulf of Mexico by Thursday and towards the Yucatan Peninsula in time to ruin the weekend.

So, although the hurricane season is in her final stretch, conditions haven’t improved in the area.

Hurricane Rina turns towards Mexico’s Riviera Maya.

Hurricane Rina still a Category 2 hurricane with sustained winds of 110 mph …175kph and gusts to 225 kph or 140 mph is now moving to the west northwest as was predicted slowly at 4 mph.

The Mexican Government has extended the Hurricane Warning and Tropical Storm Warnings, hurricane warnings are now in effect from Cancun to San Felipe and a Tropical Storm Warning from San Felipe to Progresso which is on the Gulf coast near Merida. Also Tropical Storm Warnings continue in effect for Chetumal to Punta Gruesa.

Image of Hurricane Rina with current changes in direction and speed.

As you can see from the map Hurricane Rina is projected to pass slightly to the south west of Cozumel Island sometime during the day Thursday as she makes her way to landfall near the resort town of Playa del Carmen.

Tropical Storm Winds should start battering the coast of Mexico and Cozumel Island Later today, those who want to leave Cozumel before Rina makes her humble arrival must leave before 9PM Wednesday. All vehicles ferry service to and from Cozumel is already suspended and the vessels have been moved to Puerto Aventuras for safety.

After 9PM tonight all passenger ferry service will be suspended unless conditions require suspension prior as all passenger ferry vessels also are moved to Puerto Aventuras Marina for safe keeping. Nobody wants a repeat of Wilma where the ferry in Puerto Morelos waiting to long and was forced aground by the impending storm.

Hurricane Rina could still increase to a Category 3 hurricane sometime today or overnight as it continues in warm waters and moves closer to the coast and then take a turn more to the north northwest as it passes the southwestern tip of Cozumel in Quintana Roo and then turn more to the north before turning away towards Cuba.

Classes are suspended in all schools at all levels in and around Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen and south to Tulum including Cozumel since most of the schools are used as evacuation shelters.

Holbox Island has been given the Evacuation Order for tourists and residents to leave the island, all around Playa del Carmen businesses are boarding up their storefronts and preparing for the impact sometime Thursday of Hurricane Rina.

We will keep you up to the minute with information as we have it.

Good Morning and happy 2011 Hurricane Season here in Mexico. Well while the Pacific Coast of Mexico has already enjoyed the rains and of 2 tropical systems that moved across the area including the very wet Hurricane Beatriz who is nothing more than a memory. On the Caribbean coast as well as the Gulf of Mexico and much of Central and Southeast Mexico is under the thumb of heavy to torrential rains since the weekend and looks like today will be no exception. If you arrived to the Riviera Maya or Cancun since last week you have been experiencing everything from drizzle to torrential rains, yesterdays rains and winds brought down trees and caused widespread flooding all along the coast from Cancun to Chetumal including some highways.

Heavy to torrential rains and high winds continue in the southeast of Mexico from Chetumal to Merida as Tropical Wave 4 moves into the Gulf of Mexico

On the map above you can see the current position of Tropical Wave 4 in the Gulf of Mexico as well as the Low Pressure Area which is over the northeast of the Yucatan Peninsula moving west behind the Tropical Wave. Two additional Tropical Waves are moving towards Central America over the next week from the Tropical Atlantic but typically these waves move straight across Central America into the Pacific as you can see from reviewing last years weather reports.

A Hurricane Hunter Plane was scheduled to check the system over the Gulf of Mexico today as the upper level winds in the next day or so will become more conducive to development.

Todays Weather:

Cancun, Playa Del Carmen the Riviera Maya down to Tulum is more of the same, Rain, Rain and more Rain heavy at times with strong winds continuing as well and that same pattern can be expected over the next day or two although on Thursday most of the rain should have moved out of the area leaving behind some partial cloudiness and winds. Temperatures are in the 70′s overnight and reaching close to 80F – 82F during the day under cloudy skies with humidity as you imagine 100%.

Pacific Coast including Chiapas, Oaxaca and Guerrero just a bit of the same although the severe storm warnings for the area are lifted as of 12 noon today. Temperatures about the same as Caribbean Coast area. Rains and wind will continue to affect the area just like the northern part of the Yucatan Peninsula until late tomorrow or early Thursday before clearing up for the next tropical wave approaching towards the weekend.

Gulf Coast including Merida,Veracruz, Tabasco, and Campeche wow just more of the same as Tropical Wave 4 moved yesterday into the bay of Campeche moving west at 5 to 10 kilometers per hour dumping torrential rains on the area as well as high winds closing navigational ports to small vessels. Today an Air Force hurricane hunter aircraft is schedule to check the system and a 40% chance of development exists for the next 24 hours.

Central Mexico including Puebla, Tlaxcala, Hidalgo, Mexico City, Morelos and the State of Mexico, yes you guessed it, much of the same weather as they are surrounded by the systems affecting coastal areas of Mexico. Parts of Mexico City and the State of Mexico are experiencing severe flooding some areas of Ecetapec in Mexico State have 3 feet of water. Rains will continue in the area today with 80% chance of Rain with Electrical Storms and winds.

Pacific North and Northern Mexico well here we have little rain right now actually sunny with some clouds but temperatures 102F to 105F with winds gusty at times and no rain in the forecast for the next 24 hours.

We will keep you up to date on this and other weather and news here in Mexico’s “tourist areas” daily when possible.

Cancun and The Riviera Maya should consider themselves lucky this year as they have again dodged the preverbial bullet once again as Matthew came inland further south than Karl did and this time fizzled out to a Remnant Low Pressure over the South Mexico State of Campeche and Tabasco.

But not without consequences in Mexico as several Southern Mexican States including the already flooded and suffering state of Veracruz and Chiapas and Campeche who also have taken a pounding from a parade of Tropical Waves, Low Pressures and Tropical Storms that marched across the area since the beginning of the 2010 Hurricane Season.

Now we are watching that area of unstable weather in the Western Caribbean that we can expect to develop into a Low Pressure sometime in the next day or two and then into a Tropical Depression and most likely a Tropical Storm. But where will it go? Will Cancun and The Riviera Maya and our Caribbean Coast here get lucky yet again?

Looks like the answer is yes, although we will have overcast weather, maybe some rain heavy at times but the system that has the potential to develop looks like it will move northeast and cross over Cuba or enter the Yucatan Canal in route to our neighbors in Florida.

Today is the first day in 5 weeks that there are no tropical systems in the Atlantic Hurricane Basin, No Depressions, NO Tropical Storms and No Hurricanes. In the last 5 weeks we had 10 named systems at any given time and at no time in the 5 weeks was there a period without a Tropical System Advisory from the NHC.

Tropical Satellite Image of Unstable area in the Caribbean

We still have 3 weeks left in Prime Hurricane Season and 2 months left to finish the 2010 Hurricane Season but we still have to wait and see what it will bring. Without a doubt although the Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean Coast from Chetumal to Cancun and Cabo Catoche has had an incredible lucky year with none of the storms this year passing for our area but our neighboring states and other states here in Mexico have not been so lucky.

Veracruz and parts of Tabasco and Chiapas have had areas underwater for weeks, just before Hurricane Karl was going to make his appearance off the coast of Veracruz they had already been underwater for 15 days as a result of all of the previous tropical systems that had passed the area and rivers have overflowed leaving cities passable only by boat.

Man sitting next to his Flooded Store in Veracruz

All of the rest of Mexico where there is currently no flooding or damage collection centers for Bottled Water, Canned Food, Clothing, and items for babies and children to be sent to the damaged areas like Veracruz, Tabasco and now even parts of Yucatan. just in the Passing of Karl 11 persons are confirmed killed in 3 different towns.

Loading of Bottled water being loaded onto a truck by volunteers to be sent to flooded areas.

The worst part is we are looking at more rains over the next 5 to 7 days in the same areas thanks to the remnant low pressure of Matthew that is basically stationary in Southern Mexico.

Cancun and Riviera Maya Weather for Saturday September 25, 2010 including Puerto Morelos, Playa Del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Tulum and the Islands of Cozumel and Isla Mujeres.

Weather Discussion:

If you got up at sunrise you got to see some interesting clouds over the sunrise that moved in quickly to give us a quick drenching here in Playa Del Carmen and scattered areas around the Cancun and Riviera Maya areas thanks to those outer bands to the Northeast of Tropical Storm Matthew.

Well from the unusual number of e-mails I got yesterday and today I would say lots of you are closely watching Tropical Storm Matthew to see what he is going to do and where he is going to affect. I just updated Jaimes (Travel Guru) early morning post on the location and all that and I included a Rain Rate Satellite Image from the US Navy so you can see the areas where it is raining heavily. You can see those outer bands affecting our area as well and oddly enough thats convection that is getting pulled down to that Tropical Storm.

Tropical Storm Matthew is over land in Honduras and is affecting Central America in General with Heavy Rain to Torrential Rains, all hurricane watches were dropped late last night as Matthew made landfall in Nicaragua moving towards Honduras. Many tourists on the Honduran Island of Roatan were moved to mainland (not the best idea) but there are no reports of problems from Honduras other than some loss of power in some areas including Roatan.

Where will Matthew GO? Will Tropical Storm Matthew affect Cancun or the Riviera Maya? Good questions and the short answer is yes, there will be some side effects from Matthew in Cancun and The Riviera Maya, more effects will be felt further south from Felipe Carrillo Puerto to Chetumal but NOT DIRECT effects. Matthew is NOT moving towards Cancun nor Quintana Roo. Tropical Storm Matthew in Mexico will effect Chiapas, Campeche, Tabasco and parts of Southern Veracruz. Matthew will pass much further SOUTH from our area than Karl did and thus the effects should be less overall. Matthew is on a track to the West Northwest and is expected to turn more to the Northwest heading for again the Gulf of Mexico. Computer Models have Matthew crossing land and either puttering out or emerging in the Gulf of Mexico around the border between Tabasco and Campeche. Ensemble models have the storm all over the place still from moving north interior of the Yucatan Peninsula towards Merida and even turning Northeast and crossing Cuba.

That Cold Front we have talked about moving down from the US into the Gulf of Mexico is a little behind schedule but we expect that it will be on the west of the Yucatan Peninsula by Monday or Tuesday.

Tropical Satellite Image of Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, Pacific coasts of Mexico and Mexico in General

We are watching an area of unstable conditions off in the eastern Caribbean southeast of Jamaica that has the people in the suits and ties in Florida trembling and whispering of another Wilma. Right now the Caribbean is Ripe for development all of the conditions needed for Hurricane Development exist and so it is an area we will continue to watch. Don’t be surprised if an INVEST pops up there sometime today or tonight.

You can see on the Pacific coast there is a low pressure area and an INTENSE STORM WARNING for the coastal areas there.

A special advisory for the INTENSE STORMS for the next 7 hours (Until 3pm September 25) for the following states and regions but we expect that the special advisory will be updated to exclude Quintana Roo and Yucatan but expanded to include at least 5 or 6 other Central Mexico and South Central Mexico States.

Guerrero

Campeche

High Possibility of rain with accumulations of 150 mm in 72 horas or more. The potential of rain is associated with a tropical low pressure interacting with Cold Front ·2 and Tropical Storm Hermine.

The intensity of the Storms can be accompanied by torrential rain, Cloud to Cloud and Cloud to Ground Lightning, HAIL and STRONG WINDS which can cause damage to property. Depending on the geographical area can also produce FLASH FLOODING, LANDSLIDES OR MUDSLIDES..

The conditions in the Gulf of Mexico are NOT FAVORABLE for development While Conditions in the Caribbean are SLIGHTLY FAVORABLE for development.

Conditions in the Tropical Atlantic continue to be VERY FAVORABLE for Development, We still have Tropical Storm Lisa out there out there in the Tropical Atlantic moving more to the north northwest and of NO THREAT TO Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and The Riviera Maya or for that matter any part of Mexico. As I mentioned we are watching INVEST 95 for development into a tropical event in the next 48 to 72 hours.

Current Condtions in Playa Del Carmen:

Weather Outlook for Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and The Riviera Maya.

Well you don’t want to hear it but today will be partly cloudy to mostly cloudy, chance of scattered showers. Overnight some more of the same and Sunday mmmm, more of the same.

Conditions in the Caribbean are VERY FAVORABLE for Tropical Event development.

If you take a look at the our Local Radar Here you can see that there is some light and widely shower activity on the Radar south of Cozumel and Playa, near Cancun, and inland, nothing else within range (radar range is 299 kilometers). Our Radar is updated every 15 minutes 24 hours per day.

Meanwhile if you are here in the Mexican Caribbean you are going to want to put the sunblock on even though it is cloudy. The sun here during peak hours can betray you and cause sunburn even if you don’t see the sun. Common Sense Prevails, be sure to drink water (beer doesn’t count), dehydration is always a problem in tropical destinations and those sweet tropical drinks that we all love and beer in particular can accelerate the dehydration process. Take precautions and enjoy all of your vacation.

Cancun and Riviera Maya Weather for Wednesday September 22, 2010 including Puerto Morelos, Playa Del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Tulum and the Islands of Cozumel and Isla Mujeres.

Weather Discussion:

Good Wet Morning if you are waking up here in the Playa Del Carmen area of the Riviera Maya, we had some overnight showers heavy rain for periods and even still some isolated showers and thundershowers as you are all waking up. The Sun is not far behind that dreary looking cloud cover you might be seeing as it was yesterday.

Not a lot to talk about today as Igor and Julia not even close to coming near us or causing our area any problems. On the Caribbean Coast Karl is just a slight memory but for our brothers and sisters in Veracruz quite a bit more than a memory. Hurricane Karl left 7 deaths in his path as he struck the coast of Veracruz with the Fury of a Dangerous Category 3 Hurricane. 6 of the dead were in Veracruz and included 2 young children and one of the other deaths was in the State of Puebla. Classes were suspended Monday and Tuesday in Veracruz in 7 counties while the Governor continues an alert in the affected areas because of the potential for continuing landslides or mudslides.

We are currently watching a low pressure area with disorganized showers and thundershowers in the southeastern Caribbean Sea moving to the west at 14 mph. The system has a low chance of developing right now since conditions in the Caribbean remain SLIGHTLY FAVORABLE for development of tropical systems. The Low Pressure which is in front of a Tropical Wave is moving west towards Central America and should be over the Nicaragua Area Saturday. Models indicate that this system could some ashore at the coast of Nicaragua and move north from there and come into the Mexican Caribbean and affect southern Quintana Roo or the ENTIRE coast from south to north.

Tropical Storm Georgette should fizzle today to a mere Tropical Depression as she continues to move north across Baja California Sur on the West Coast of Mexico (Far from Cancun). There are heavy rains and thunderstorms in the area of Chiapas on the Pacific Coast forcing the Mexico National Weather Service to Continue Severe Storm Warnings for the area.

Tropical Satellite Image for Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico and Mexico in General

We are going to open up in the news section for Updates to the INVEST 95 which could affect our area as early as Sunday evening or Monday Morning of the coming week.

A special advisory for the INTENSE STORMS for the next 6 hours (Until 3pm September 22) for the following states and regions but we expect that the special advisory will be updated to exclude Quintana Roo and Yucatan but expanded to include at least 5 or 6 other Central Mexico and South Central Mexico States.

Until Wednesday 3 PM

Chiapas y Baja California Sur

Skies: Cloudy and Showers

Temperatures: Current 73º F / 23° C Highs 84° F / 29° C Overnight Lows 73° F / 23° C

Humidity: 94%

Barometer: 29.90/ 1012 FALLING (Playa Del Carmen)

Wind: Calm (no wind)

Warnings / Watches: There are no watches or warnings for our area of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Weather Outlook for Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and The Riviera Maya.

For Cancun and the Riviera Maya today and Thursday you can expect more of the same we had the beginning of the week, early morning showers and thundershowers, rain can be heavy at times. Cloudy skies should give way to late morning sunshine and temperatures will not be as warm as the previous weeks with temperatures reaching only the low 80′s F / high 20′s C

Hurricane Igor and Julia GONE and not causing nor did they cause any issues here in Mexico.

Tropical Storm Lisa out there in the Tropical Atlantic moving North Northwest and not strengthening just like her Brother Igor. Like Hurricane Igor Tropical Storm Julia is of NO THREAT to MEXICO.

Conditions in the Caribbean are FAVORABLE for Tropical Event development.

If you take a look at the our Local Radar Here you can see that there is some light shower activity on the Radar about 100 kms south of Cozumel and nothing else within range (radar range is 299 kilometers).

Cancun and Riviera Maya Weather for Friday September 17, 2010 including Puerto Morelos, Playa Del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Tulum and the Islands of Cozumel and Isla Mujeres.

Weather Discussion:

Good Morning, Well I am back hopefully you didn’t miss me too much but I had to have some surgery on Monday and I have been unable to be in the sun or in front of the computer for long periods of time but I tried to bang out some important reports.

Lots of weather this week to talk about so lets get to it; I know everyone was watching Tropical Storm Karl as he was approaching the Yucatan Peninsula in the Caribbean but as I mentioned in my Sunday and Monday reports Karl was going to stay far to the south of our area and have little or no impact on us and fact is he had little impact.

The Day of Impact in the Costa Maya we were with mostly sunny skies and hardly a breeze blowing. Of course the day after as Karl as a Tropical Depression moved across land and out to the Gulf of Mexico we had some heavy rains (well needed) and Thursday was basically a lost day for activities. Most of you here stayed at the hotels or did indoor sports like SHOPPING!

So while Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and the Riviera Maya dodged the bullet once again Hurricane Karl a powerful Category 3 Hurricane is bearing down on the coast of the already flooded and suffering State of Veracruz. Red Alert has been posted by the Mexican Govt. for the entire State of Veracruz, Puebla and Tlaxcala for Hurricane Karl while Mexico City is under an INTENSE STORM WARNING for the next 3 days as a result of the same tropical system. Hurricane Karl should make landfall in the next couple of hours moving west onto land in Veracruz near the resort communities of Boca del Rio and Puerto Veracruz.

Tropical Satellite Image for Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, Pacific Coast and Mexico in General

A special advisory for the INTENSE STORMS for the next 4 hours (Until 3pm September 17) for the following states and regions but we expect that the special advisory will be updated to exclude Quintana Roo and Yucatan but expanded to include at least 5 or 6 other Central Mexico and South Central Mexico States.

Until Friday 3 PM

Quintana Roo, Yucatan, Campeche, Tabasco, Chiapas, Veracruz.

Depending on the geographical area can also produce FLASH FLOODING, LANDSLIDES OR MUDSLIDES.

Here in Cancun and The Riviera Maya we have sunny skies with some very SCATTERED Clouds. Most of the day there will be a light breeze blowing 8mph / 13 kph. The conditions in the Caribbean are FAVORABLE for development of Tropical Systems (2 of the 4 conditions are present for development).

The conditions in the Gulf of Mexico are FAVORABLE for development.

Conditions in the Tropical Atlantic continue to be VERY FAVORABLE for Development, We still have Hurricanes Igor and Julia out there in the Tropical Atlantic weakening as they move more to the north northwest and of NO THREAT TO Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and The Riviera Maya or for that matter any part of Mexico. the good news is that we are not seeing anything new right now off the coast of West Africa to worry about.

Current Condtions in Playa Del Carmen:

Skies: Mostly Sunny

Temperatures: Current 86º F / 30° C Highs 91° F / 33° C Overnight Lows 73° F / 23° C

Humidity: 74%

Barometer: 29.95/ 1014 Rising (Playa Del Carmen)

Wind: 14 mph / 22 kph from the East Southeast

Warnings / Watches: There are no watches or warnings for our area of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Weather Outlook for Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and The Riviera Maya.

For Cancun and The Riviera Maya for today and most of the Long Holiday Weekend we will have more of what we had this morning, mostly sunny, hot and not as humid. Mostly Sunny skies will prevail most of the time, temperatures will reach the Low 90′s F / low 30′s C but will feel like mid 90º’s F / 30º’s C, we have as always a chance of an evening or overnight shower or thundershower. Overnight lows will be around 75º F / 24º C.

Hurricane Igor still a Major Category 3 Hurricane Moving Northwest towards Bermuda, expected to pass near Bermuda Sunday and the national Hurricane Center has a hurricane Watch in effect for the area. Hurricane Igor is of NO THREAT to Mexico.

Hurricane Julia also out there in the Tropical Atlantic a Category 1 Hurricane moving Northwest and weakening just like her Brother Igor.

Our Radar is updated every 15 minutes 24 hours per day.

Meanwhile if you are in Cancun, The Riviera Maya or the Islands here be sure you get the sunblock on whether you are laying on the Beach, doing a tour or just walking around getting oriented, the sun will be behind clouds from time to time today making you think you don’t need sunblock but you DO. Make sure you hydrate, drink lots of water, and if you are at the pool or on the beach stagger between those beers and cocktails a nice bottle of water. Don’t take the sun for granted, enjoy your vacations.

Cancun and Riviera Maya Weather for Thursday September 9, 2010 including Puerto Morelos, Playa Del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Tulum and the Islands of Cozumel and Isla Mujeres.

Weather Discussion:

Finally something new to “discuss”, we had an overnight shower! Yeah I know, not funny but yesterday was another beautiful day with sunny skies and hot temperatures and of course HUMID. Today we are off to another day of the same just maybe, maybe a little more clouds today and in the Northern part of Quintana Roo maybe even around Cancun, Isla Mujeres and the Holbox and Contoy Islands some scattered showers or thunderstorms.

The remnants of Tropical Depression Gaston are still hanging around there in the Eastern Caribbean still around Hispanola and really we can’t even call what is left of him “Remnants”, there is a “0″ chance of this activity to develop.

INVEST 92 that low pressure that is around the Windward Islands is one that we are watching since it is already in the Southeast Caribbean we want to see what course it might take and if it will develop into some kind of Tropical Event over the next couple of days as it moves West. The Models have it all over the place which is normal since it is just a low pressure area and very unpredictable.

Tropical Storm Igor was the news yesterday but today Igor is just a very weak Tropical Storm that turned to the North this morning and that will keep it away from our area at least for now unless there is some dramatic change. We will of course report on Tropical Storm Igor as long as it is within an area where it could turn towards Mexicos Caribbean.

Tropical Satellite Image for Mexico, Caribbean, Pacific Coast of Mexico and Mexico In General

A special advisory for the INTENSE STORMS for the next 24 hours (Until 3pm September 7) for the following states and regions.

Until Thursday 3 PM

CHIAPAS:

High Possibility of rain with accumulations of 150 mm in 72 horas or more. The potential of rain is associated with a tropical low pressure interacting with Cold Front ·2 and Tropical Storm Hermine.

The intensity of the Storms can be accompanied by torrential rain, Cloud to Cloud and Cloud to Ground Lightning, HAIL and STRONG WINDS which can cause damage to property. Depending on the geographical area can also produce FLASH FLOODING, LANDSLIDES OR MUDSLIDES.

The conditions in the Gulf of Mexico are NOT FAVORABLE for development.

Conditions in the Tropical Atlantic continue to be VERY FAVORABLE for Development, currently we have Tropical Storm Igor and another Low Pressure just off the coast of West Africa south of the Cape Verde Islands.

Current Condtions in Playa Del Carmen:

Skies: Mostly Sunny

Temperatures: Current 84º F / 29° C Highs 89° F / 32° C Overnight Lows 75° F / 24° C

Humidity: 70%

Barometer: 30.00/ 1015 Steady (Playa Del Carmen)

Wind: Calm

Warnings / Watches: There are no watches or warnings for our area of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Weather Outlook for Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and The Riviera Maya.

For Cancun and The Riviera Maya for today we will have more of what we had yesterday, mostly sunny, hot and humid. Mostly Sunny skies will prevail most of the time, temperatures will reach the High 80′s F / low 30′s C but will feel like mid 90º’s F / 30º’s C, we have as always a chance of an evening or overnight shower or thundershower. Overnight lows will be around 75º F / 24º C.

Conditions in the Caribbean are FAVORABLE for Tropical Event development.

If you take a look at the our Local Radar Here you can see that there is some light shower activity on the Radar about 100 kms south of Cozumel and nothing else within range (radar range is 299 kilometers). Our Radar is updated every 15 minutes 24 hours per day.

Cancun and Riviera Maya Weather for Tuesday September 7, 2010 including Puerto Morelos, Playa Del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Tulum and the Islands of Cozumel and Isla Mujeres.

Weather Discussion:

Now we are getting Redundant I think with the beautiful days here in Playa Del Carmen but again today we got off to and continue to have a beautiful day for the entire stretch of Mexicos Caribbean. From Sunrise to Sunset here you can expect a beautiful day full of sunshine and hot temperatures, just what you were looking for when you booked that vacation here in the Riviera Maya.

The remnants of Tropical Depression Gaston are still hanging around there in the Tropical Atlantic about 120 miles or so southeast of the Puerto Rico moving at 15 mph to the west. Conditions should improve for development of this system in the next day or so and the Leeward Islands should start feeling the effects of this Wave of Low Pressure sometime tonight.

The Central parts as well as Gulf of Mexico and Pacific Coastal Areas of Mexico continue to be the big story around Mexico as Heavy to Torrential Rains continue to fall in many parts. Saturday the National Weather Service in Mexico issued a INTENSE STORM WARNING covering 72 Hours and that Special Advisory has been extended thanks to Tropical Storm Hermine in the gulf of Mexico:

Tropical Satellite Image for the Tropical Atlantic, Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico and Mexico In General

A special advisory for the INTENSE STORMS for the next 24 hours (Until 3pm September 7) for the following states and regions.

Until Tuesday 3 PM

JALISCO, COLIMA, VERACRUZ, TAMAULIPAS, NAYARIT, SINALOA and PUEBLA (Central)

High Possibility of rain with accumulations of 150 mm in 72 horas or more. The potential of rain is associated with a tropical low pressure interacting with Cold Front ·2 and Tropical Storm Hermine.

The intensity of the Storms can be accompanied by torrential rain, Cloud to Cloud and Cloud to Ground Lightning, HAIL and STRONG WINDS which can cause damage to property. Depending on the geographical area can also produce FLASH FLOODING, LANDSLIDES OR MUDSLIDES.

Here in Cancun and The Riviera Maya we have sunny skies with some very SCATTERED Clouds. Most of the day there will be a light breeze blowing 8mph / 13 kph. The conditions in the Caribbean are NOT FAVORABLE for development of Tropical Systems.

The conditions in the Gulf of Mexico are VERY FAVORABLE for development.

Conditions in the Tropical Atlantic are VERY FAVORABLE for Development but 4 tropical storms in 11 days I didn’t have to tell you that, did I. For now 2 more Tropical Waves are moving off the west coast of Africa which without doubt will become named storms in the course of the next couple of days.

Current Condtions in Playa Del Carmen:

Skies: Sunny

Temperatures: Current 88º F / 30° C Highs 90° F / 32° C Overnight Lows 77° F / 25° C

Humidity: 62%

Barometer: 30.00/ 1016 Rising (Playa Del Carmen)

Wind: 8 mph / 13 kph coming from the East Southeast.

Warnings / Watches: There are no watches or warnings for our area of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Weather Outlook for Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and The Riviera Maya.

For Cancun and The Riviera Maya for today we will have more of what we had yesterday, mostly sunny, hot and not as humid today as past weeks. Sunny skies will prevail most of the time, temperatures will reach the low 90′s F / low 30′s C, we have as always a chance of an evening or overnight shower or thundershower. Overnight lows will be around 77º F / 25º C.

Conditions in the Caribbean are NOT FAVORABLE for development.

If you take a look at the our Local Radar Here you can see that there is no shower activity on the Radar within range (radar range is 299 kilometers).
