Cancun and Riviera Maya Weather for July 14, 2010 including Puerto Morelos, Playa Del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Tulum and the Islands of Cozumel and Isla Mujeres.
Weather Discussion:
This morning we had partly cloudy to mostly cloudy conditions over the Island of Cozumel as well as to the North of Playa Del Carmen and to the East. We had a very brief sprinkle here in Playa this morning around 9AM (not measurable) and I am a little late getting the report out looking at alot of data here from NOAA Satellites.

Sunrise view from Playa Del Carmens Xcalacoco Beach on the Riviera Maya taken at 6:30AM July 15, 2010.
The “High Pressure” that was dominating the Gulf of Mexico moved further north in the Gulf and let some Convection move north in the caribbean to our area today. While this will only affect the “clouds vs sun” aspect of this weeks outlook but we remain the same. Partly to Mostly Cloudy TODAY with the same chance of an afternoon or evening showers or thundershowers, the day will most likely be a 4 on my “Quality of the Day” scale of 1 to 10.
We still have some tropical waves around Mexico but the weather affecting our area today is not from a tropical wave but from a trough moving down from the US and crossing Cuba but that should move out of our area tonight and bring in sunny skies for the rest of the week. Tropical Wave 15 (INVEST 96) out there in the pacific affecting the areas of southern Campeche, Tabasco, Veracruz and most of the coastal areas of Oaxaca and Chipas. TW 14 is now Tropical Depression 6E which is not affecting our area but is to the southwest of Jalisco and could bring showers to them today and tomorrow.
Tropical Depression 6E and Tropical Wave 15 off the coast of Oaxaca and Chiapas currently INVEST 96 affecting the coastal area of those states and some convection affecting the Souther part of the State of Veracruz and Tabasco. Currently the only rain or showers affecting the country are along the coastal Oaxaca from Puerto Escondido to the Bay of Huatulco. Villahermosa Tabasco and Xalapa Veracruz are reporting overcast conditions and chance of rain. There is a severe storm warning for the coastal areas of Chiapas and Oaxaca as well as Severe Storm Watch for the southern parts of the States of Veracruz and Tabasco as INVEST 96 moves along the pacific coast of Mexico and tropical wave 15 begins affecting the area from the Bay of Campeche through Chiapas. Severe Storm Warnings are in effect as a result of TW 15 from Southern Campeche to Puerto Escondido and Huatulco un Oaxaca for the rest of today and tomorrow.
The same high pressure that is keeping conditions not favorable for development of tropical events in the Gulf and Caribbean is also keeping conditions dry in the North, Northeast and Northwest of Mexico.
Current Condtions in Playa Del Carmen:

Temperatures: Current 80° F / 26° C Highs 86° F / 30° C Overnight Lows 75° F / 24° C

Weather Outlook for Playa Del Carmen
The rest of the week will be like Wednesday (not like today) as that trough moves west across our area early today mostly cloudy skies will give way to mostly sunny skies and Friday Hot and Humid again, I am calling the day an 8 on our “Quality of Day” scale of 1 to 10. We will continue to have a chance of afternoon or evening showers or thundershowers. Temperatures will climb back to the 90′s F / 30′s C during the day and get down to the mid to upper 70′s F / low 20′s C overnight.
I am watching some thunderstorms over Puerto Rico and the Lesser Antilles but quite doubtfull that they will move in our direction.
