Cancun – Riviera Maya Weather Wednesday August 25, 2010

Cancun and Riviera Maya Weather for Wednesday August 25, 2010 including Puerto Morelos, Playa Del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Tulum and the Islands of Cozumel and Isla Mujeres.

Weather Discussion:

Well this has been one of those really interesting weather days all around not only here in Mexico but also in the Tropical Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico,

Hurricane Danielle yesterday downgraded today upgraded again to Hurricane Status although for now just a category 1 hurricane.  Danielle continues to move on the same course, northwest far from land (600 + miles) and not expected to affect land until it moves up around New Foundland maybe. Hurricane Danielle is of NO THREAT to Mexico.

Today Invest 96L became Tropical Depression 7 and quickly upgraded to Tropical Storm status becoming the 5th named Tropical Event of the 2010 Hurricane Season.  Tropical Storm Earl is following the same path as Hurricane Danielle and is expected (according to all the fancy lines on the computer models) to stay away from the Caribbean Islands and very far from Mexico.  So another good news, Tropical Storm Earl is of NO THREAT to any part of Mexico.

The Pacific Side of Mexico where we still have Tropical Storm Frank who has upgraded to Hurricane Status today as well, Hurricane Frank as of 8PM Central time is located about 325 km south west of Manzanilla Colima although no landfall is expected here Hurricane Frank is dumping alot of rain on the pacific coast area and Severe to Intense Storm Warnings are in effect for the coastal area from Acapulco north the Colima and Jalisco.

Now for some more rare news for August, we have our first “Cold Front” pushing down from the US into the Gulf of Mexico.  Yep, Cold Front in August and it will cause windy conditions as well as a drop in temperatures between today and the 29th of August.  You can check it out on the map.

On the weather map here you can see that we have that Tropical Wave 26 has moved closer to the Yucatan Peninsula but its center has dropped down and will cross the area of the Yucatan around Belize but extends as far north as the top of the Peninsula and south to Panama.  This tropical wave has some scattered and disorganized clouds as well as some very disorganized showers and thundershowers moving in front of it. This system is very disorganized as are the showers and clouds and presents very little possibility of any development over the next couple of days.  The conditions in the Caribbean are NOT FAVORABLE for development.

Finally in the Gulf of Mexico near Texas a Low Pressure area has popped up (what a surprise on this odd weather day) and is moving west southwest so we have to see what will happen there.  The conditions in the Gulf of Mexico are slightly favorable for development.

Current Condtions in Playa Del Carmen:

Skies: Clear with Scattered Clouds

Temperatures: Current 79° F / 26° C Highs 89° F / 32° C Overnight Lows 73° F / 23° C

Humidity: 90%

Barometer: 29.95/ 1014 Steady (Playa Del Carmen)

Wind: 5 mph / 7 kph coming from the southeast

Warnings / Watches: There are no watches or warnings for our area of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Weather Outlook for Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and The Riviera Maya.

For Cancun and The Riviera Maya for Thursday and Friday we will enjoy some more of what we had today, mostly to partly sunny, hot and humid day. Partly Sunny skies will prevail, temperatures could reach the low 90′s F / 30′s C both days and of course thanks to our field of high humidity (above 80%) a chance of an afternoon or evening shower or thundershower. Overnight lows will be around 73º F / 23º C with a bit more wind as Cold Front #1 begins pushing down and Tropical Wave 26 moves closer to the Peninsula.  We had some very isolated and brief showers today but only enough to turn up the sauna.

That low pressure system way out there off the Cape Verde Islands INVEST 96L today became Tropical Depression 7 and sometime soon after the 5th named Tropical Event of the 2010 hurricane season, Earl.  The good news is that it will follow the same path as Hurricane Danielle moving first Northwest and bumping into that high pressure ridge with winds steering it to the north keeping it well away from land and only a threat to Ships at Sea.

Tropical Wave 26 can affect us with disorganized and scattered clouds and showers over the next 48 hour but nothing of any consequence.

Conditions in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico are NOT FAVORABLE for development.

If you take a look at the our Local Radar Here you can see that there is no shower activity within 150 miles of Cancun (radar range is 299 kilometers).  There are some scattered showers outside the 200 kilometer mark to the east and north of Cancun and Cozumel.

Meanwhile if you are in Cancun, The Riviera Maya or the Islands here be sure you get the sunblock on whether you are laying on the Beach, doing a tour or just walking around getting oriented, the sun will be behind clouds from time to time today making you think you don’t need sunblock but you DO. Make sure you hydrate, drink lots of water, and if you are at the pool or on the beach stagger between those beers and cocktails a nice bottle of water. Don’t take the sun for granted, enjoy your vacations.
