Cancun – Riviera Maya Weather July 6, 2010

Cancun and Riviera Maya Weather for July 6, 2010 including the areas of Puerto Morelos, Playa Del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Tulum and the Islands of Cozumel and Isla Mujeres.

Summary: Tropical Wave #12 continues to affect the Caribbean Coast of Mexico from Cancun south to Chetumal as well as parts of Campeche and the State of Yucatan.  Yesterday we made the drive from Chetumal to Playa Del Carmen and encountered torrential rains mostly around the Chetumal area but isolated in nature but as we moved to the north from north of Felipe Carrillo Puerto to Tulum the rain became more constant and heavy at times almost impossible to continue driving.  During the overnight rain heavy at times fell on the area giving it a good soaking that is quite unusual for the area this time of year when we normally have very dry weather.

Here is a view of the conditions yesterday from Laguna Bacalar the Lake of 7 colors.  Today we couldn’t see all of the 7 colors but we enjoyed the view from the restaurant and could watch the rain south of Chetumal hitting the area.  As we were driving from Chiapas (yes we went all the way to Chiapas) back to Quintana Roo we could see the line of Tropical Wave 12 over the caribe but we didn’t experience water from the system until we hit Chetumal and then not until we hit Felipe Carrillo Puerto which is about 70 miles south of Tulum.

Today we expect that the Tropical Wave will continue to move across the Yucatan Peninsula directly in the Area of Cancun and the Riviera Maya toward Merida and out into the Gulf Of Mexico where conditions are slightly more favorable for developement and head for the coastal area of Texas (that is the most probable at this time).

Current Conditions.

 Skies: Cloudy with Rain falling.

Temperature: 77° F / 25°C

Humidity: 100% with Rain

Barometer: 29.90 / 1013 Rising

Wind: 7 mph / 11 kph gusting in Playa Del Carmen to 25 mph at times.

Outlook:

Tuesday July 6, 2010 Cloudy with rain heavy to intense at times with Hail and severe electrical storms possible during the day as Tropical Wave 12 (INVEST 96) moves northwest across the Yucatan Peninsula.  Tonight we can expect more of the same, definately not a beach day for those here in the area on vacation but surely you can look for some indoor activities.  If you take a look at the our local weather radar you can see that severe rain has moved onto the Peninsula and most of the area from Chetumal to interior sections are experiencing heavy rain and storms.

Wednesday July 7, 2010 we can expect partly cloudy skies, with a chance of some lingering showers in the late afternoon and early evening, temperatures hot and humid in the 90′s F / 30′s C as the Tropical Wave moves onto the Peninsula and heads toward the Gulf of Mexico.

    Hi Francesca,

I don’t think this is going to be the worst holiday ever… :) While we are watching the waves that are always coming off the coast of West Africa I am not impressed with any of them and honestly the conditions right now (this moment) in the Tropical Atlantic and Caribbean are NOT favorable for any development and I see that most likely (barring any changes in current upper level conditions) that these waves will come into the caribbean and affect us, most likely they will like the other 11 before them cross Central America and affect the eastern Pacific along Mexicos Pacific Coast.
If you are going to be in Playa Del Carmen or the Riviera Maya maybe you will let us interview you on camara for the website. E-Mail me: travelguru@mexicotravelmagazine.com Cheers
