Cancun and Riviera Maya Weather for Thursday September 2, 2010 including Puerto Morelos, Playa Del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Tulum and the Islands of Cozumel and Isla Mujeres.
Weather Discussion:
Another rainy beginning to the day today here in Playa Del Carmen but those clouds are giving way to partly sunny skies and temperatures are finally on the rise.
Hurricane Earl a Large Dangerous Category 4 hurricane bringing 30 foot seas continues moving towards the Atlantic Coast of the US, Warnings and Watches are up for the Atlantic Coast from North Carolina to New England. Hurricane Earl is of no threat to Mexico so we will discontinue bringing updates and information.
Tropical Storm Fiona still a disorganized tropical storm moving out into the open ocean only Bermuda has a tropical storm WATCH in effect. Tropical Storm Fiona also NO THREAT to Cancun or The Riviera Maya but we will continue until tomorrow to bring updates.
Tropical Storm Gaston has formed yesterday out there in the Tropical Atlantic. A few minutes ago Gaston was downgraded to a Tropical Depression once again. Current Models have mixed opinions on track so we will watch Gaston to see what he is going to do. Some models do have Gaston entering the Caribbean sometime around Tuesday or Wednesday next week but this early margin of error can be 50% or more.

In the Central, South and Southeast of Mexico we have unstable conditions continues as well as a low pressure area the result of that yellow line you see there that are Low Pressure Troughs through the central and western part of Mexico Bringing Unstable Conditions to the areas of Central Mexico, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Tabasco and Northern Chiapas. There is a Low Pressure area in the Pacific just off the Coast of Chiapas which is causing Showers and Thundershowers in that area and could bring more rain to an already soaked region. We have a low pressure off the coast of Baja California Sur which is the remnants of Hurricane Frank.
The National Meteorological Office in Mexico has issued an INTENSE STORM WARNING until 15:00 hours Thursday September 2, 2010 for Chiapas and Oaxaca which will most likely be extended until 3 PM Friday as conditions in the area have not gotten any better.
The intensity of the storm can be accompanied by intervals of heavy downpours, cloud to cloud and cloud to ground lightning, hail and strong damaging winds. Depending on the local area also flash flooding, mud slides and landslides are possible.
Here in Cancun and The Riviera Maya we have mostly cloudy skies giving way to Partly Cloudy. We have a chance of scattered late evening showers. Most of the day there will be a nice breeze blowing 6 to 8 mph. The conditions in the Caribbean are NOT FAVORABLE for development of Tropical Systems.
The conditions in the Gulf of Mexico are NOT FAVORABLE for development.
Conditions in the Tropical Atlantic are VERY FAVORABLE for Development but 4 tropical storms in 11 days I didn’t have to tell you that, did I. For now 2 more Tropical Waves are moving off the west coast of Africa which without doubt will become named storms in the course of the next couple of days.

Weather Outlook for Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and The Riviera Maya.
For Cancun and The Riviera Maya for Friday and Saturday we will have more of what we had yesterday and today, partly sunny to partly cloudy conditions, not as hot and not as humid today as past weeks. Partly to Mostly Cloudy skies could prevail most of the time, temperatures will reach the low 90′s F / low 30′s C, we have a chance of an evening or overnight shower or thundershower. Overnight lows will be around 75º F / 24º C.
Conditions in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico are NOT FAVORABLE for development.
If you take a look at the our Local Radar Here you can see that there is no shower activity on the Radar but here locally we had a brief shower passing over that was not on the radar, (radar range is 299 kilometers). Our Radar is updated every 15 minutes 24 hours per day.
Meanwhile if you are in Cancun, The Riviera Maya or the Islands here be sure you get the sunblock on whether you are laying on the Beach, doing a tour or just walking around getting oriented, the sun will be behind clouds from time to time today making you think you don’t need sunblock but you DO. Make sure you hydrate, drink lots of water, and if you are at the pool or on the beach stagger between those beers and cocktails a nice bottle of water. Don’t take the sun for granted, enjoy your vacations.
