Cancun – Riviera Maya Weather UPDATE July 17, 2010

Cancun and Riviera Maya Weather UPDATE for July 17, 2010 including Puerto Morelos, Playa Del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Tulum and the Islands of Cozumel and Isla Mujeres.

Weather Discussion:

Today started out as a cloudy and windy day with some areas of scattered rain in the morning and showers but evolved here in Playa Del Carmen into a somewhat nice afternoon with some blue skies and sunshine for a few hours.  Temperatures reached 90° F before the blue sky gave way to clouds again and our entire area again was treated to those afternoon and early evening showers, nothing sustained but still enough to bring the temps down as well as the humidity a little.

Worst Weather of the day was in Merida where they are still experiencing severe thunderstorms, heavy downpours and Cloud to Ground Lightning.

Yesterday we talked about the inverted trough that is affecting the area and continues to affect today and most of tomorrow from the Bay of Campeche to Tamaulipas tomorrow will begin to move away from Campeche and affect more Veracruz .  There is an area of low pressure that you saw on yesterdays Graphic (one of three) that is affecting the area of Chiapas, the system has alot of humidity and is presenting heavy rains to torrential rains in that area of Southeast Mexico and parts of Belize and Central America. That system will continue to move along the coast there and begin affecting Oaxaca and Guerrero on Monday.
Tropical Wave 16 (don’t think I forgot) is in the Caribbean and bringing unstable conditions to the area.  Normally this wave wouldn’t have come up this far but the high pressure that was in the Gulf of Mexico moved up and out and low pressure prevails in the areas now so TW16 moving closer to Central Quintana Roo which is our area in part. Monday Tropical Wave 16 moves in front of the coastal area of Quintana Roo increasing the chance of rain heavy at times during the day Monday and I venture to say Tuesday as well depending on how fast it moves and conditions in the Gulf of Mexico.  By Wednesday TW 16 should be in the Bay of Campeche but we could see some after affects in the way of some clouds to scattered showers or thunderstorms.
2 tropical Waves still haunt the Tropical Atlantic moving west toward the coast of South America but still are a week away from arriving near Mexico.
Tropical Depression 6E in the pacific and moving away from Mexico currently not affecting Mexico.
